Nerd Art Prize „Picture of the month“ – April
We would like to introduce the winners and participants of the Nerd Art Prize like the picture of the month. In April is it a picture by Tereza Fenclová, doctoral student at Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen. Her picture is a microphotograph of testicular tissue of a mouse male exposed to bisphenol S (BPS), an omnipresent environmental pollutant suspected of reproductive toxicity. The snapshot was taken by confocal microscope (magnification 20x). Blue – DAPI (DNA marker), Green – Acrosomes, Red – Peroxiredoxin 6 (protein marker of oxidative stress). The picture was prepared by immunofluorescence method in the Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine of the FMP’s Biomedical Center. The main aim was to determine whether the environmental pollutant BPS increases levels of peroxiredoxin 6, the specific marker of oxidative stress, in testicular tissue of exposed male mice compared to non-exposed individuals.
