Looking back at the Summer School of Experimental Surgery 2023

From Monday, July 3rd, till Friday, July 14th, the 10th Summer School of Experimental Surgery took place at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen. The Summer School was attended by 31 students from 11 universities from 8 European countries, including Czech Republic.

The Summer School program started with theoretical preparation. Both workshops and lectures were focused on experimental and human surgery. Among the lecturers, a number of foreign experts have appeared again this year, amongst others Prof. Dr. med. Pierre-Alain Clavien from Universitätsspital Zürich with his lecture on What to Know about Liver Surgery, Dr. M.M.A. Monique Verstegen, Ph.D. from Erasmus MC, Rotterdam with her lecture called Design by Nature; Emerging Applications of Extracellular Matrix for Liver Regenerative Medicine. ERA Chair holder Prof. Kari Hemminki, M.D., Ph.D. gave his lecture with the title Survival in Cancer, Prof. Dr. Inge Herrmann from the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering, ETH Zürich spoke in her lecture about Innovating Medical Materials and Technology, and her colleague from the same department, ETH Zürich, Dr. Alexandre H. C. Anthis gave his lecture on Robust and Intelligent Adhesives for the Abdominal Cavity. All lectures were open to public.
